History of implants

They are known to mankind for thousands of years, as there is evidence that they were used 4000 years ago in ancient China. Naturally, their form and materials used were quite primitive, in comparison to today’s solutions.

Modern dental implants are based on the studies of bone healing and regeneration capabilities. They allowed to discover an amazing property of titanium, which grows into the bone becoming its virtually inseparable part. This ‘osseointegration’ capability has proven to be extremely useful not only in the hip or knee surgeries, but also in dentistry.

At first, they were used for patients, who lost all of their teeth and had problems with tolerating other, alternative methods, but currently they can replace even a single tooth.
